Seagate Data Recovery
As with any internal or external hard drive, data loss is always a possibility. Seagate hard drives only have a finite lifetime and they suffer can suffer from logical and physical faults. We have an endless list of clients that have needed data recovery or missing files recovered from Seagate hard drives.
Seagate Technology is one of the biggest players in the data storage industry, Western Digital being the only serious competitor. In 2013, Seagate announced they had sold 2 billion hard drives, so you can only imagine how many they have sold by today.
Seagate manufactures hard drives for every business market; for enterprise-level customers, Seagate hard drives are used as data center specialized drives. For small and medium business setups, Seagate hard drives are found in NAS devices, SAN storage devices, servers, desktops, and so on, and they also have a major presence in the home consumer market.
Seagate owns a number of the big brands, including the Samsung HDD business and Maxtor Technologies. As a result, the chance that any given computer user owns a hard drive manufactured by Seagate is pretty high.
There are several leading products from Seagate, including the ever-popular Seagate Barracuda range of internal hard drives. Other big names include Seagate Firecuda, Seagate Ironwolf, and Seagate Skyhawk, as well as external drives like the FreeAgent Desk and Maxtor BlackArmor.

Gillware Seagate Recovery Services
One of the most common data loss situations we encounter is when a client requires data recovery from a broken HDD, and because so many Seagate hard drives are in circulation, our Seagate hard drive recovery is one of the most popular data recovery services available at Gillware.
Gillware has successfully recovered data from over 100,000 failed hard drives, and our seasoned engineers have mastered our internal processes for a failed internal/external Seagate drive, making the entire data recovery process relatively speedy with a great success rate.
Gillware was founded in 2004 on the principle of providing world-class data recovery services at highly competitive prices. This gives Gillware the edge, as we are big enough to handle any data disaster scenario but small enough to care about our client’s journey, making the recovery process personal to them.
Our data recovery experts have tens of thousands of hours performing hard drive data recovery, decades of experience you will not find at any other Data Recovery Company. Many of the team have been with Gillware since we were founded, and they have helped us pioneer new data recovery techniques including proprietary data recovery tools, data recovery software, and hardware tools.
We have two offices in the United States: one branch office in the Detroit Metro region and our headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin. Madison is home to our 12,000 sqft data recovery lab. The lab is the heart of Gillware; it’s where our experts work in our cleanroom environments fixing customer issues to the highest of standards.

What Causes Seagates Hard Drives to Break?
There are three main causes of Seagate Hard Drive failure. These are logical failures, physical damage, and mechanical failure.
Mechanical Faults
We get a lot of Seagate Hard Drives suffering from electrical faults, in particular, Seagate Barracuda drives. Electrical faults usually result in the hard drive appearing totally dead, and it won’t spin up. It’s also very likely that your Windows PC or Linux Server will hang or crash as a result of the fault, or the Seagate device may ‘vanish’ from your desktop, suggesting significant lost data. It’s also possible that your seagate hard drive will display a USB device not detected or computer not recognizing hard drive error.
We also see a lot of Seagate hard drives with head failures. This is where the head stack either fails or becomes stuck on the disk platters, typically caused by a head stack crash. On a Seagate drive, head stack failures are accompanied by a quiet clicking noise or sometimes a beeping noise, a typical sign of a hard drive physical failure.
If the Seagate hard drive is making a buzzing noise, it’s most likely that the hard drive motor has failed. This could be a burnt-out motor or another form of an electrical fault affecting the PCB. This results in the motor failing to spin the disk platters on the storage device, making read/write impossible.
Physical Damage
Physical trauma to a hard drive is caused when a drive is dropped, kicked, or suffers some other form of improper handling. If you attempt a home fix in a non-cleanroom environment, you can accidentally add physical damage to the device by introducing foreign contaminants to the sensitive internal hard drive components.
Logical Faults
Other faults that we see in our lab include Seagate drives with firmware faults or drives that are overheating, have been dropped, or experienced some other kind of physical damage. Logical faults are also regularly seen in our lab. This is lost data caused by human error, corruption, damage from a power surge, or damage from a virus/malware attack.
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, reach out to Gillware data recovery services!
How Do I Recover Data from a Seagate External Hard Drive?
The data recovery process for a Seagate drive can be a complex and challenging experience, even for the experts. We do not advise that anyone attempts a home fix that involves opening up the hard drive, as this can spell disaster for the hard drive, making data recovery impossible.
It is highly recommended that with all physical and mechanical problems you seek out professional assistance. Gillware Seagate hard drive recovery is a quicker and more affordable data recovery option than Seagate support.
Seagate has a significant number of well received hard drives, one of their premier offerings is the Seagate Barracuda 8TB HDD. Another popular device is the Seagate 1TB desktop HDD. Reach out to Gillware if your Seagate 1000GB desktop HDD fails.
You may be tempted to perform a home fix for a logical failure of the hard disk, and although Gillware discourages this approach, it comes down to whether you are happy to take the risk of 100% data loss by doing it yourself.
Data recovery software is available online that claims to fix logical errors, however, there is no guarantee that this will work. Some data recovery software only offers limited features such as detecting logical failure, but then demands an expensive license to add the additional data recovery options to the application for it to work.
With Gillware, data security is a paramount concern, and our data recovery services come with a guarantee of no fix, no fee!
We also include a free evaluation service where an expert will review your case and provide the cause of the problem, how many files we can restore from the storage device, and an estimate of how long it will take to get the recovered data back.
Free shipping is included too! Contact Gillware today for a completely risk-free service.
How Much Does Seagate Charge for Data Recovery Services?
We know that Seagate provides its own data recovery service, and it’s likely you will already know this after searching about your Seagate data recovery issue. However, using their service comes with many caveats.
In nearly all circumstances, you will be referred back to your original manufacturer if your Seagate hard drive has failed, so if you have a desktop computer, you will need to send it back to the computer manufacturer and you will have to cover the costs of shipping and the costs of tracking the postage.
If your warranty has expired, then Seagate will be unable to help you, and above all else, on their standard RMA service, data on returned products will be lost.
Add to this a lengthy turnaround of 15 business days, you can see why businesses and personal users across the United States are choosing Gillware to recover data from their Seagate.
How Does Seagate Data Recovery Work?
The Gillware Data Recovery Service is available with a risk-free option that includes free shipping and a free evaluation. Our engineers will only proceed with a fix after you are happy with the estimate. There is no sales pressure put upon our customers; you can simply walk away if you want to, or you can instruct Gillware to recover data from your Seagate drive.
A support case can be logged directly from the website, or if you prefer to discuss your case with the team, speak to our data recovery experts on 877-624-7206. Our team will provide a label to ship the storage device.
Our team will talk you through the shipping process, what to include, and what to exclude. Sometimes our engineers will need the entire Seagate hard drive enclosure (NAS / SAN), while other times they will need only the hard disk itself. We will let you know what is needed.
Upon arrival, the disk is sent to the lab for an initial investigation. At this stage, our experts will investigate the root cause of the problem, provide an estimate of how long data recovery will take, and estimate what percentage of data can be saved.
The Data Recovery Process
You can track the entire data recovery process on our website; simply log into your account (this is provided when your case is submitted to Gillware).
The primary goal of our data recovery process is to get the hard drive into a readable state. The way we do this varies depending on if your media is suffering from a logical failure, physical damage, or mechanical damage.
Mechanically and physically damaged hard drives need to be disassembled in our clean room environment so our engineers can test the internal components and replace any defective parts. The team has access to an extensive spare parts library, and we have built great relationships with the major hard drive manufacturers, making it simple to order a part just in case we do not have it in stock.
We may need to replace the spindle motor, the PCB, or any number of sensitive internal components. This must be done in a cleanroom to ensure that no foreign contaminants are introduced. If the delicate spindles are scratched or damaged, Gillware has built a custom-made burnishing tool; this sophisticated tool will remove scratches and deep impacts on the disk platter, just one example of how Gillware is a different data recovery company, one that goes above and beyond other secure data recovery companies, putting the customer first!
Once the disk is readable, our team will attempt to image the hard drives to avoid permanent data loss. We do this by using proprietary data recovery software known affectionately as Hombre. You will not find this data recovery software anywhere else, as it was created by our very own Data Scientists and it is used exclusively at Gillware.
Our software will create a raw copy of your external hard drive; we can then apply any number of logical fixes to the hard disk file system. A logical fix can rebuild the layout of the hard drive and recover missing files.
Once the missing files have been located, we will approach the customer with a complete file list of exactly what files and data can be recovered. Often the client is only looking for particular data, such as critical business data or treasured family photos. However, Hombre can reconstruct the disk, multiple disks, and even Raid configurations.
No job is too big or too small for our data recovery engineers.
Is Seagate Data Recovery Free?
No, Gillware Data Recovery is not free, however, our prices are extremely competitive!

What Happens to My Recovered Data?
Upon completion of recovering the data, Gillware’s engineers can upload your recovered data to a secure environment hosted on our website. If the deleted data for your Seagate external hard drive is too big to upload, or if you do not want your data stored online, we can arrange for the recovered data to be copied onto another external hard drive that can be shipped direct for a small charge.
The customer can also provide storage devices for us to use. We just ask that you ensure that the external hard drive has enough storage capacity. Security is the number one priority for Gillware, so all Seagate external hard drive data will be protected to industry best practices and data governance requirements when stored on our internal systems.
